Helpful Ways of Finding Closure 

Dealing with grief from the loss of a loved one could be one of the hardest things that we have to go through. It is letting go of part of your life that is no longer stable and learning to find a new kind of normal. It’s hard. There is no timeline. There is not one thing fixes everything. There isn’t a road map that leads you home, because, well, your home isn’t home anymore.

We all have to find our new normal. The journey on how we get there will be different for all of us. One thing that we must remember is that grief is a JOURNEY… It is not a DESTINATION.  Here are a few things that may help you on your journey.

You have just lost a part of your life. A part of your world that you are used to. Something that you are used to having, a part of your normal. Take your time. Grieve. Don’t let someone tell you to “Just get over it”. Everyone grieves differently. Everyone has their process.

Find whatever works for you. Go through photos. Talk to family about You have to be aware that the whatever you are grieving is gone. YOU have to make peace with that. You have to move on from whatever may have been unfinnished, unsaid, undone or unknown.

How to deal with the grieving process

While grieving a loss is an inevitable part of life, there are ways to help cope with the pain, come to terms with your grief, and eventually, find a way to pick up the pieces and move on with your life.

  1. Acknowledge your pain.
  2. Accept that grief can trigger many different and unexpected emotions.
  3. Understand that your grieving process will be unique to you.
  4. Seek out face-to-face support from people who care about you.
  5. Support yourself emotionally by taking care of yourself physically.
  6. Recognize the difference between grief and depression.
